Year in Review Part 2

May was busy with transplanting tens of thousands of seedlings and dahlia tubers into the fields. Our team worked hard to get everything plants quickly. Mother's Day flowers were beautiful, and The Flower Shack was full of bouquets and vegetable seedlings for our customers' gardens. We were harvesting more each week for our grocery store customers, too.

Early Bouquets offered at The Flower Shack filled with beautiful spring flowers like Anemones, Orlays, Snapdragons, Stock, and Larkspur.

Lisianthus transplanted into our new high tunnel.

Mother’s Day bouquets were lovely. We shipped many to grocery stores and had them available at the farm too.

Also during May our farm stand The Flower Shack had a great selection of heirloom tomato, pepper, and herb seedlings for our customers gardens.

June was hot, and we finished up the main push of planting and started on the second round of many flowers. I continued to seed 10,000 sunflowers every week, and we waited for the field flowers to grow.

A delivery truck full of bouquets heading to our grocery store customers. The bouquets are full of lovely flowers from both the high tunnels and the field. June is a nice blend of spring and summer flowers.

The dahlia field starting to grow.

Getting more area ready for more flower transplants.

July was hot and dry! We worked on irrigation every day, watering our important crops like dahlias, lisianthus, and crops in the high tunnels. We felt like we were only giving our flowers a sip of water each time. We finished planting our high tunnels for fall production. The field flowers were starting to bloom more, and many grocery store bouquets were being made and delivered all throughout the Pittsburgh region.

The new high tunnel planted with 20,000 lisianthus. The team worked really hard on keeping this crop weeded.

This field was growing nicely. Dahlias, Zinnias, Marigolds, Celosia, Broomcorn, and Hibiscus were all planted in this field.

By the end of the month the lisianthus house was in full bloom!! Lisianthus are one of our favorite summer flowers we grow.

Deliver truck packed and ready for deliveries. Lisianthus and sunflower bunches and mixed bouquets.

August continued the hot dry spell. We changed our tactic on watering, the fields responded, and started blooming in abundance. The team and I were focused on harvesting thousands of stems every week and making bouquets for our grocery store customers as fast as we could. The dahlias were finally starting to produce, and we had loads of lisianthus. We finally felt like we were back on track.

The Zinnias finally started to bloom in August with abundace.

We were swimming in sunflowers. Our team harvests sunflowers everyday to keep the fresh for customers.

The lisianthus continued to bloom. We love this purple lisianthus for our market bouquets.

Lisianthus bunches ready to be packed up for the grocery stores.

The dahlias started to bloom and it was perfect timing. We love using dahlias in our grocery bouquets and also in straight bunches.

Mixed bouquets ready for delivery. These summer bouquets have Zinnias, Lisianthus, Amaranth, Foxtail, Marigolds and Scabiosa in them to create a lovely bouquet.
